Dr. Isabelle Bichindaritz is an internationally-known expert in biomedical informatics and artificial intelligence in the medical field. She has served for many years as a research scientist at several prominent educational and government facilities. Dr. Isabelle is also the author or co-author of more than 100 papers in conference proceedings and peer-reviewed journals.
Dr. Isabelle was named as Director of the new Biomedical and Health Informatics Research Laboratory at the SUNY Oswego Metro Center in Syracuse, New York. The laboratory was established through the SUNY 2020 Challenge Grant program as part of a five-campus Labs to Jobs consortium. Dr. Bichindaritz oversees the $1.42 million lab’s operations while she co-serves as the director of Biomedical Informatics for the SUNY Oswego campus. Her reputation for rigorous scientific practices and focus on developing innovative healthcare options for patients have made her a highly respected voice in this revolutionary field of study. Dr. Bichindaritz joined the SUNY Oswego faculty in 2012.
Dr. Isabelle Bichindaritz earned her PhD in Computer Science at the Université René Descartes (Paris V) in Paris, France in 1995. In 2001, shed joined the faculty at the University of Washington in Tacoma as an assistant professor, becoming the Director of the Laboratory of Informatics and Artificial Intelligence at the school in her eight-year tenure there. She also served as a research staff scientist at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Washington, where she studied computer-based informatics systems and how they could work alongside physicians to help develop treatment plans for patients based on the data collected.
She then joined the faculty at the State University of New York at Oswego in 2012 as an assistant professor and later as the director of the Biomedical Informatics department. 2015 saw her become recognized for her research excellence when she was appointed to the new laboratory at the SUNY Oswego Metro Center in Syracuse. The lab was developed through legislation to enhance economic development and to support workforce training for the students in the State University of New York system. Her leadership will help future generations continue to lead the way in developing programs to benefit the health and lifestyles of patients.
